Clothing Donations

Decluttering is an essential component of thorough spring cleaning. Our real estate agents often find themselves with a small mountain of unneeded clothes, books, toys, and other household items each year. What to do with all of these items? Donate them, of course! Here are five organizations around Long Island that will put those objects to good use.

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island - 160 Walt Whitman Road, Huntington Station, NY 11746
The Long Island branch of Big Brothers Big Sisters accepts donations of used clothing and household items, including jewelry, toys, books, and small appliances. You can either drop these items off at the GreenDrop bin or schedule a pickup at your home. The items they collect are sent to Savers stores to be sold for a modest price. The proceeds of these sales go toward funding the organization, helping more kids in Long Island communities connect with the positive role models they need to thrive.

  • Savers - 188 Hempstead Turnpike, West Hempstead, NY 11552
Speaking of Savers, you can also drop off donations at their West Hempstead location. Donations made here will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island. You can donate all of the same items that are accepted through the GreenDrop bin and pickup program, as well as things like furniture and sports equipment. Stop by the customer service desk on your way out to get a coupon for 20% off your next Savers purchase as thanks for your contribution!

  • Long Island Cares - 10 Davids Drive (Harry Chapin Way), Hauppauge, NY 11788
Long Island Cares is Long Island's first and oldest food bank. On top of their work providing food to members of Suffolk and Nassau counties through their member agencies, they also offer educational programs on nutrition and wellness and advocate for government-funded solutions to poverty and food insecurity. They host many food drives around Long Island where you can donate any unexpired non-perishable food items you had hanging around in your pantry.

  • Clothing Drop Spot - 941 Carmans Road, Massapequa, NY 11758
The Clothing Drop Spot at Carmans Plaza makes it easy to get rid of old clothing you no longer need. Just bring your gently used shirts, pants, dresses, outerwear, kid's clothes, and other apparel to the monitored drop spot and push them through the slot. They'll be picked up by local charities who will distribute them to folks who need them.

  • Salvation Army – 94 Front Street, Hempstead, NY 11550
Long Island's Salvation Army accepts donations of used clothing, furniture, books, electronics, and just about anything else you can think of. You can drop these things off at any of the many donation bins the organization maintains around Long Island or request a pick-up on the company website. Most of these items will be sold in the store to fund charity work, but some donations may be used in the organization's adult rehabilitation centers.

Long Islanders are known for the kind of generous neighborly spirit that makes charities and donation drives like these so successful. Contact us today to start looking for a home in the area and become an official member of this big-hearted community.
