Curb Appeal Tips

Curb appeal isn't just for spring and summer sellers. The condition of your property's exterior spaces plays a huge role in securing a high sale price regardless of the season. If you're planning to list your home this fall, our real estate agents have some tips for you. Keep reading to learn more about how you can make your home's exterior shine this fall.

  1. Highlight Your Front Door
Your front door is the first thing buyers will notice when entering your home. Make yours look inviting with a fresh coat of paint and a few decorative accents like planters or a welcome mat. If you're feeling bold, choose a bright paint color that will stand out from the rest of your home. The contrast will make your property look trendy and memorable.

  2. Tidy Up Your Yard
If you have any trees on your property, don't let dead leaves pile up on your lawn. Rake them into neat piles for composting instead. This is also a good time to prune any dead, dried-up branches from your trees and shrubs. If any of your plants have died, remove them from your garden beds and replace them with fresh ones.

  3. Plant Some Fall Blossoms
Plants like chrysanthemums, asters, and marigolds all bloom in the fall instead of the spring or summer. We often use them to freshen up the yards of our Nassau and Suffolk County homes for sale, and you can do the same. Place a few of these autumn blooms in sparse spots around your garden to fill out your greenery and add some color and texture to your landscaping.

  4. Plant Fall Veggies
Leafy fall veggies like kale and spinach also make great landscaping elements – and since they regrow quickly after harvesting, you can enjoy them without spoiling their appearance. Add them to your garden beds to create a display that tastes just as good as it looks.

  5. Add Exterior Lights
With the sun setting earlier each day, fall is the perfect time to put up some pretty exterior lights. From decorative porch lights to twinkling fairy lights, there are countless ways to brighten things up. If you want to go the extra mile, add a fire pit to your backyard for ambient lighting that provides extra utility and enhances your property value.

  6. Update Your House Numbers
When was the last time you thought about what your house numbers looked like? Visit your local hardware store and pick up some new ones that match the color and finish of your home's other exterior fixtures. Place them in a spot that looks good but is also easy to see from the street.

  7. Decorate for the Season
Seasonal decor will complement nature's vivid fall colors and make your home look cozy and welcoming. Add some pumpkins or a festive wreath to your porch or doorstep, or fill a planter with some stalks of dried wheat and dried ears of corn. Avoid using too many Halloween-themed items to keep your display looking classic, not kitschy.

There's much more to securing a fall sale than just landscaping. If you're ready to sell your home before the end of the year, our team can help. Contact us today to speak to one of our trusted agents and take the next step toward your real estate goals.
