When it comes to serving seafood, being close to a waterfront is a definite advantage. Koiso Japanese Restaurant sources its seafood from the fishing community of Freeport. If someone in your group isn't a sushi fan, Koiso gets high marks for their gyoza and ramen. Get happy hour pricing on selected a la carte items and combos from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays. The traditional Japanese restaurant sources products from the iconic Tsukiji Market in Tokyo, along with its NYC equivalent, Fulton Fish Market. In addition, organic produce is purchased from local farmers' markets. Hana specializes in omakase, which translates to "I'll leave it up to you." When Hollywood producers told James, owner of Sushi Ko, that he should be in movies, they were actually referring to his food. Chef James made a featured appearance preparing a plate of his photogenic sushi for Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker to share in the rom-com Failure to Launch. Fortunately, you don't need to be a movie star to enjoy Chef James' contemporary take on classic sushi. Kirazu Sushi showcases not one but two iconic Japanese cuisine styles. In addition to a sushi bar, the restaurant features a hibachi grill where chefs prepare chicken, shrimp, salmon, beef, vegetables, and fried rice. One delighted customer asked the sushi chef for a customized roll and the result, the eponymous Riana roll, is now a permanent offering. One tip: warm up your vocal cords, as karaoke is also on the menu. Other Asian favorites such as edamame, gyoza, and karaage are served as tapas, the Spanish small-plates dining style. Paying in cash is so 20th-century, but it's still in style at Shoshaku, where it earns you a 10 percent discount.
