- Fire Island Lighthouse - Field 5, Robert Moses State Park
What was once an important landmark for ships coming into New York Harbor, Fire Island Lighthouse sits on a barrier island that is now a park and museum with trails, oceanfront views, and plenty of history. The museum is open daily from 10 am to 4 pm, and the tower is also available for tours throughout the week. The gorgeous scenery provides many photo opportunities. The lighthouse is just a short walk from Robert Moses State Park Field 5.
- Jones Beach - 1 Ocean Pkwy, Wantagh, NY 11793
Widely considered one of Long Island's best seashores, Jones Beach hosts concerts, boardwalk activities, and tons of fun in the sun all spring and summer. The park has over 7 miles of ocean-front beach, two pools, and an abundance of free activities, so it's one of the best places to take the kids. A classic Long Island amusement park, Adventureland has thrill rides, haunted mansions, bumper cars, water rides, kid-friendly rides, and plenty of snacks and games. General Admission is $49.50 for ages 2-24 and $39.50 for adults 25 and up. Season passes and birthday party rentals are also available. - Long Island Children's Museum - 11 Davis Ave, Garden City, NY 11530
With 14 interactive exhibits for all ages, live theater, creative areas, and daily activities, the Long Island Children's Museum is an excellent way for families to spend a weekend afternoon. From a bubble room to climbing structures, all of the exhibits are meant to inspire creativity, uncover passions, and master skills. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm.
- Long Island Game Farm - 489 Chapman Blvd, Manorville, NY 11949
Head to the Long Island Game Farm for some sunshine and an up-close look at some of your favorite animals. This children's zoo has dozens of exotic and local species of mammals, birds, and reptiles. Buffalo, camels, chimpanzees, and alpacas are some of the most popular exhibits. Kids will have the opportunity to feed the animals, and the farm hosts tons of programs and activities throughout the spring and summer.
