If your Instagram's been a little light recently, try visiting these scenic spots across Long Island!

If you're developing cabin fever this winter, getting out of the house and experiencing nature is a great way to enhance your mood. Our real estate agents have been out enjoying beautiful winter weather around Long Island and Brooklyn. Nothing helps you feel better than some crisp fresh air.

While we've been out, we've discovered many scenic spots around Long Island that make for perfect photo ops or Instagram shots. If you're looking to enjoy the outdoors this winter, here are some top destination recommendations:

  • Avalon Park and Reserve
If you're in the mood for a beautiful hike in the snow, Avalon Park and Reserve in Stony Brook has a lot to offer. You'll find scenic trails and woods as well as picturesque ponds. You'll have no trouble getting some Instagram-worthy nature shots here. Avalon Park is just a short train ride away from some beautiful Brooklyn homes for sale.

  • Kings Park Psychiatric Center
One of the best places if you want interesting pictures, the abandoned Kings Park Psychiatric Center is a must visit location if you're feeling adventurous. A bit of hiking may be required to reach this building, but it's worth the effort. Once there, you'll find a dilapidated old building with some artful graffiti. Be sure not to trespass on private property and do not attempt to go inside.

  • Montauk Lighthouse
Montauk is often busy in the summer, but you won't experience the same crowds in the winter. It's a great chance to head on down to the Montauk lighthouse and grab a pic of this beautiful building. The lighthouse is especially beautiful in the snow.

  • Jones Beach
This state park is open year-round and offers fantastic views of nature, wildlife, and the ocean. Take a nice walk along the coast where you'll find ample opportunities for pictures. There's a great lighthouse at Jones Beach as well.

  • Long Beach
Another great spot for beautiful winter pictures is Long Beach. A short walk from Long Beach homes for sale, you'll find miles of beautiful coastline and have no trouble finding perfect Instagram shots. It's also a peaceful place to walk around and enjoy nature. Long Island also is such a unique beach town, so you'll undoubtedly stumble across interesting public art while walking around town.

  • Old Westbury Gardens
One of the most scenic places in all of Long Island is Old Westbury Gardens. This property was formerly occupied by New York businessman John Shaffer Phipps. It's one of the most beautiful mansions in the area. The building is also surrounded by gardens and ponds, which look absolutely enchanted when surrounded by a snowy scene.

  • Argyle Lake
Located in the village of Babylon, Argyle Lake is a beautiful park with a gorgeous view of the water and well-maintained walking trails. There are plenty of benches around, so it's easy to stop for a rest and soak in the scenery.

  • Nautical Mile
Located near Freeport, The Nautical Mile is a stretch of restaurants, bars, and shops that line the water of the South Shore. This unique area is a popular destination year-round, and it's full of great photo opportunities.
