Mission of Island Harvest Food Bank
Island Harvest is the largest hunger-relief organization operating on Long Island. The organization supplies food pantries, soup kitchens, and senior centers across the region. Thousands of local children, working families, and veterans rely on their network every day. Rising grocery costs place additional strain on household food budgets throughout the year. Community collection drives provide direct relief before the freezing winter weather begins. >Every can of soup or box of cereal helps stock local pantry shelves.
Most Needed Donation Items & Giving Guidelines
Donors can bring unopened non-perishable food products directly to our collection bins. Pantry coordinators request nutritious staple items with extended shelf expiration dates. Volunteers sort and inspect every item before distributing donations to regional food pantries.
Recommended Non-Perishable Food Items
Canned proteins such as tuna, salmon, chicken, and beans are urgently needed. Whole grain cereals, oatmeal, pasta, and brown rice provide healthy pantry staples. Canned vegetables, tomato sauce, fruit cups, and hearty soups are welcome donations. Peanut butter, jelly, powdered milk, and shelf-stable fruit juices remain high priorities.
Supermarket Gift Cards & Financial Support
Supermarket gift cards allow pantry managers to buy fresh produce, dairy, and turkeys. Donors can contribute grocery cards from local markets along with their dry food donations. Financial contributions enable Island Harvest to acquire bulk nutritious foods at wholesale pricing. You can also donate online through the official Island Harvest website.
